Shawn is a husband, a father, an entrepreneur, an educator, and now a Halifax Regional Councillor, living on Quinpool Road.

He is from a family of entrepreneurs and has worked on and advised many start-ups, and right now, he and his wife own two Montessori childcare centres. He is a business professor at Mount Saint Vincent University and has also taught courses on entrepreneurship and management at Dalhousie, Saint Mary’s, and NSCC.

Before teaching, Shawn was a policy analyst with political parties and governments in Ottawa and Halifax. He managed the research staff for the Leader of a federal party, and was an advisor to the Senate Banking committee and to the Minister of Education for Nova Scotia.

Shawn loves big ideas. He’s organized three TEDx conferences at Mount Saint Vincent University, putting dynamic speakers on stage ranging from Atlantic Canada’s first Mi’kmaq film producer to Halifax’s Chief of Police, a former finance minister, and leaders in the charitable sector. Shawn was on the Halifax Library Board for three years and helped put the business case together that made our new Central Library a reality.

And Shawn loves Halifax. He walks and bikes to work everyday and tends a big vegetable garden on his front lawn. He stood for election to become the Councillor for District 9 because he loves the lifestyle here and wants to protect what’s great and fix what’s broken.

Shawn strives to provide leadership and to be someone who can work with residents to find solutions and turn them into reality.
